Gays/Lesbians Still Unable to Sponsor Partners for Visas
While the British Parliament celebrated its first Same Sex marriage, hailing recognition and acceptance of same gender partnerships, the leadership of US Congress says sorr, Queers, we cannot pursue a Bill that will provide US same-gender spouses the right to live with spouses and partners in the pursuit of happiness on US soil! What is wrong with this Picture – Speaker Nancy Pelosi, President Obama? Bill Clinton – you signed DOMA do you hear our cries? Can you envoy our special visa?
Calling for a Special Visa- For as long as LGBT same-sex partners have zero rights under the federal law, we fall into a minority category of SPECIAL. That means we should be given special rights, albeit interim, until the law restores us to the place where we belong – full Americans with full irreversible equal rights under the constitution of the United States of America.
While we wait for immigration equality under the US Immigration and Naturalization Act – we swirl, drowning, in the sea of immigration reform, we are still unable to sponsor our foreign-born partners. Some American spouses, permanent partners, domestic partners, what ever you want to term a committed love relationship between same-sex couples, we continue to endure unconscionable and inhumane situations on a day to day, hour by hour basis. I do not care if anyone calls it a special agenda, a special right – for as long as we suffer the abhorrence of such overt inequality and discrimination- you can call it anything for all I care.
