Some recent questions have come up around the wedding party topic for same-sex weddings. Not everyone needs to have a wedding party but if you choose to have one who will you invite into it? Will you be gender specific or have it be only family or maybe just any close friends regardless of any other factors? Please share some of your thoughs and ideas on what you plan to do for your wedding.

We are choosing to be fairly traditional with the ceremony but not so much as our "roles" we have each chosen 3 ppl to stand with us… regardless of sex (example her "best Man" is female as are the majority of the ushers) we are also not enforcing females wear dresses in the bridal party. Our ushers will all be in suits even though 3 of the 4 are female…..basically our "rule" is "whichever you identify with more masculine vs. Feminine thats how you dress"…much easier that way. Laugh

Hello everyone!

It's nice to be here to help offer experience and ideas to the forum.

We frequently recommend to clients that, rather than "Best Man", "Bridesmaids", "Groomsmen" or any other gender-specific title for the wedding party… calling them "Men of Honor", "Women of Honor" or the "Loved ones"… even "Best Friends".

This seems helpful in situations, such as ARL2's (above) where people in different roles are of different genders entirely (It is phenomenal that they will allow people to dress the way that most suits them!).

Clients seem to like the warmth, inclusion and significance without having to force their special roles into a cookie-cutter, gender-locked name.
